Summary ß Ancient Ruins (Ancient Dreams Book 1) 106 Summary ↠ PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB ´ Join or create book clubs Characters Ancient Ruins (Ancient Dreams Book 1) En nations and the slaver kingdom of Kelvanis when she rescues a princess from slavery With her domain containing hints of forgotten knowledge Sistina becomes a dungeon stron. Of all the stories I ve ever read with a dungeon mind theme this is the best Although this story appears to have its roots in gaming it is not a gaming story It does not insist on stats or conforming to a game s rules In this story Sistina may incidentally have a dungeon master s abilities and that is ancillary to the story but if she had other abilities instead you know that she would find a way to accomplish her goals The world building is well done and feels like it could exist somewhereThere are 3 POV s in this story Sistina the elves and the enemy I enjoyed reading Sistina s and the enemy s POV but the elves felt meh With the first two you had this sense of coming conflict but the elven POV felt like it was only written to provide some justification for future plot developments without actually making it interestingAs a fantasy book it is decent but nothing really gives that amazing sense of wonder you find in bestsellers Great world building as I mentioned but that fantastic fantasy falls just a little short I do think that the author has potential and this is great story for someone who self published

NOTE THAT THIS REVIEW TOUCHES ON ALL THREE BOOKS OF THE TRILOGY I DON T THINK I AM GIVING BIG SPOILERSFOR THE LATER BOOKS BUT BE WARNEDI liked Medrano s Mantles of Power series enough that I sought out some ofhis older books Ancient Dreams is a completed trilogy from a fewyears agoIn a prologue we find a demon Avendrial punished for unclearreasons by being imprisoned in a soul gem The gem is graduallyeating away at her memories self but she does find happiness fora time being worn as jewelry by a gentle and respected elven womannamed Sistina When Sistina dies her favorite necklace is buriedwith her and Avendrial gradually loses track of time loses herpersonal memories and forgets she is not a soul gemWhen chance though actually predicted by a prophecy Sistina soughtfrees her she manifests as a dryad in the underground ruins of the oncegreat elven capital Taking the only name she can remember she becomes Sistina and starts to fashion an underground gardenEventually the outside world intrudes A runaway elf slave stumbles intoSistina s cavern and Sistina finds the world has greatly changed fromwhat little she can remember An apocalyptic war called the Godsragehas eliminated all true gods from the mortal plane some were killedthe survivors left the elven kingdom of the original Sistina is longgone and an expansionist human nation is making war on the elvensuccessor kingdoms and placing slave brands which magical enforce obedienceon the defeated so that each defeated soldier becomes a new enemySistina finds that while she cannot break the slave brand of her elven guestshe can possess it binding the elf to her rather than her human mastersWhile not ideal as she doesn t actually issue any orders or ever plan toit s a step in the right directionRuminating on the state of the world Sistina remains withdrawn until herforaging guest is captured by a elven war party who have just rescuedtheir princess from slavery and are on the way home Sending her constructbody outside of her cavern for the first time Sistina easily frees herguest but realizes that the elven princess is clearly a descendant ofher original Sistina Becoming snared in rapidly expanding circles oflove and obligation Sistina becomes a growing power in her world anddiagnosed by the Adventurer s Guild as a dungeon throws herself into thatas wellThis series shares a number of features with Mantles of PowerSome examples are mantles as a transferable power locus theimpossibly light and strong magical metal mithral elves angels demonsdemigods succubi Despite that I do not think the world is the sameThere is also a strong D D element here I think I m not a D D guy for thedungeon core stuff which seems very similar to what D R Rosier was doingin his Dark Dungeon seriesI would say that while on the whole I enjoyed this trilogy it was notas good as Mantles of Power I think to some extent Medrano had a bitless finesse in writing about some of his tropes and the Chalkeresuestuff is stronger here and there is less ambiguity about it being againstthe characters best interests The plot also meandered a bit and Sistina largely found plot tokens whenever she needed them There wassome intersting character development on the villain side with a jovialand unflappable big bad and one of his chief subordinates who could have beena good guy if he had been raised in a normal country

Summary ß Ancient Ruins (Ancient Dreams Book 1) 106 Summary ↠ PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB ´ Join or create book clubs Characters Ancient Ruins (Ancient Dreams Book 1) Ghold and source of hope all at once And perhaps just perhaps she could finally find love in her new lifeThis is a dark fantasy lesbian romance with a focus on the dark fanta. This was a fun read with interesting characters The bad guys aren t all carboard cutouts Some of them are relatable confused or misled while others are just evil but even those can show hints of depth I do think the author went to too much effort to stick in sexual content and I think it would have been smoother without some of it
