characters ↠ eBook or Kindle ePUB ↠ Daniel Whelan Daniel Whelan ↠ 3 read & download The Box of Demons review ¶ eBook or Kindle ePUB The apocalypse began in a small seaside town in Wales An uproarious adventure perfect for fans of Terry PratchettBen Robson can't remember a time before he had the Box with its three mischief. it is not without flaws but after finishing it when I look back at the experience of reading it the main feeling that comes through is that I enjoyed it for the most part And really really enjoyed the author s satire on religious fanaticism and his depiction of hell and the final apocalypse Liked the characters and the way they were drawn Most of them were well defined and I could picture them in my mind Really liked The Opposition and way the horsemen were depicted Now for the negative the pacing was a bit off and it felt like reading 2 different books Or one story written as Part I and Part II Part I is the middle grade story of a young boy and his everyday struggles that included a supernaturally powered box of demons Part II started at the druids water ceremony when he goes into the box and things take a darker turn The level seems to go way above middle grade once the box is destroyed and all the religious references start coming in Most of them would be lost on younger audience but as an adult reader reading this book to see if my 12 year old would like it I fairly enjoyed and appreciated what the author had done here The said 12 year old read it and liked the book for the story itself but of course she cannot yet appreciate or fully comprehend the issues of fanaticism and propaganda that are being satirized at the end of the book That will come with time and growth the ability to fully understand what the author has drawn For now she thought it was an enjoyable book and that is enough I am happy for her to hold on to her innocent worldview a little bit longer Plenty of time later to understand how some of the vilest crimes in history are committed in the name of religion As the author has so cleverly underlined in the book the road to hell is paved with good intentions Any search for God fails the moment the seekers lose care and respect for the very creations of that God Humankind being a major one of his many marvels For how can you find Godthe Prime One if you fail to respect and nurture the very creation He has poured his essence into And to destroy His creation the world and everything in it just so you can find him is such a contradictory and doomed pursuit as the book underlinesSo 1 star off for the disparity in pacing and themes handled And anyway I reserve 5 stars for what I view as complete perfection so obviously 5 stars are a rare occurrence A solid 4 stars for this one

Ben Robson has a box that seems to have been with him forever In it live three demons who are rather like having annoying friends you can never get rid of but at the same time if they weren t there you would feel as if something was missing Orf is a smelly incessantly complaining hypochondriac Kartofel has the body of a spider eight claws where his legs should be and a crimson and yellow flame for his head and Djinn has a very large body with a constant craving for food he is not able to eat But after a visit from something that seems to be an angel Ben is told he can be free of the box forever if he sends it to hell But it seems the box has other plansBen is someone who does not fit It does not help that he has to live with his grandparents who look after him because his mother is in a nursing home This can result in him being given a hard time by others in the community But it is clear that his mother is not short of love for him and it is only her illness that keeps them apart His grandparents exude a uiet concern even though they do not always understand Ben and feel great sadness that their daughter cannot lead a normal life In many ways it is the demons with whom Ben has formed the closest bonds even though he would like to be free of their constant and irritating presence As the book progresses however Ben acuires allies from the most unexpected places and the demons begin to prove their worthThis is a book that appears to be pitched at the young adult market given that the main protagonist is nearly fifteen and his possible love interest is about the same age But the writing style comes over as something appropriate for a younger audience of twelve and upward In fact there are many time when Robin Jarvis s Tales from the Wyrd Museum series comes to mind In many ways considering the way current young adult fiction is constantly pushing the envelope of what teenagers are capable of reading this is a refreshing take on what is a Dungeon s and Dragons style of adventure storyThe Box of Demons courtesy of Macmillan Children s Books via NetGalley

PDF/EBOOK (The Box of Demons) Daniel Whelan ↠ 3 read & download read The Box of Demons I had my young nephew 11 in mind for this book but being a fan of Pratchett had a go at it myself first It's funny well paced and enjoyable to read the story of a young boy lonely and tormented by a box of demons that seem very attached to him At the start I thought it was going to be laughs all the way but actually there is a moving and really uite sad element to the story regarding his mother who is in an institution
